Co-Axial Cable
PTFE coaxial cable is an advanced and specialized type of cable widely used for transmitting high-frequency signals with minimal loss and interference. It consists of a central conductor, typically made of copper or another highly conductive material, surrounded by a layer of PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) dielectric insulation. This insulation provides exceptional electrical properties, including low capacitance and high insulation resistance, ensuring efficient signal propagation.
The central conductor and dielectric are encased in a PTFE outer jacket, providing additional insulation and protection. The unique properties of PTFE, such as its resistance to extreme temperatures, chemicals, and moisture, make this cable suitable for demanding environments like aerospace, telecommunications, and scientific research.
PTFE coaxial cables are widely favored for their low signal attenuation, maintaining signal integrity over long distances. Their precision construction and excellent shielding capabilities also help prevent electromagnetic interference. These attributes collectively make PTFE coaxial cables a reliable choice for applications requiring high-performance signal transmission and precise signal fidelity.
Co-Axial cables are designed for use in data processing equipment and information systems which require very precise signal characteristics. They may also be used as circuit elements, delay lines or matching impedence devices. All cables are carefully tested to ensure uniform quality and reliable performance. Applications include use in original equipment manufacture; system installations; research and development; quality control and testing equipment.
The central conductor is insulated with PTFE to provide low loss and high dielectric properties in the temperature range of -200 deg C through +200 deg C. This inner dielectric is sometimes called the “core” and serves not only to maintain a common axis but also to separate the 2 conductors. The outer conductor or shield consists of a single layer of woven metal braid. Depending on its use, this braided outer conductor may shield the inner conductor against stray inductance or radiation, or it may serve as a ground return for the interconnected circuit. Wrapped around the outer conductor is an insulated PTFE jacket.
